This piece will form part of our new-style newsletter and I shall resist the urge to ramble.
At our recent committee meeting the burning issue was the organisation of activities for future meetings. It seems to me that collectively our members have a vast store of knowledge and expertise in matters related to amateur radio; but how do we encourage those members to stand up and share that knowledge? Please, give it some thought. Can YOU give us a short talk? As always the message is – just have a word with any member of the committee.
Your committee will work hard on your behalf, of course, but the Club’s success will depend on all of you.

A NOTE FROM THE NEW EDITOR
I hope to be able to produce a news letter 2 or 3 times a year starting with this one; this Spring, 2008. It was my intention to e mail to all members with access to the internet. However, with only two replies to the request in the last newsletter, it has been decided to continue with mailing as before. I will be able to make notes of meetings that I attend, but as I am away for extended periods from time to time a report from anybody, no matter how short would be welcome. It is going to be a hard job to follow on after the splendid job Ann and Tony did. The most important part of any newsletter is it's contributors, so please keep the information coming. Anything sent should preferably be sent by e mail in a word doc. and pictures as jpeg attachments. My current e mail address is in the members list I hope to produce the next issue in A5 Mike G3TOI
MEETING REPORT
Only eight people attended the meeting of 18 Jan, and after the business was concluded which was reports by various members of the committee the mystery objects were discussed. There were several objects including some duplicates and some disguised.
The list of objects included Vero board cutters and pin inserters, a bug key in a personal carrying case as used by Bell Telephone operators, who always used their own keys. Other items included a Thermocuple gas valve actuator, an easy out for removing broken bolts, a cable detector and a special extractor for removing video heads.
All the indications are that this year’s sale, our twentieth, was again a success. Thanks to the hard work put in before the day by Wendy and John G0HAT, everything went like clockwork. This year we made an early start and at 7am. we were ready to swing into action. In no time at all the tables were up and labelled and the traders began lugging in their wares. I never cease to be amazed by the excellent range of quality, previously-owned items available on the Society’s stand!
Most of the usual traders were there and it must be significant that they keep coming back year after year. The catering was of the usual very high standard with bacon rolls an added bonus. I made a point of talking to as many people as possible, traders and punters alike and the feedback was totally positive.
To many, this is first and foremost, a social event and. I met some old friends that I hadn’t seen for years. I think we can now be happy that we are a fixture in the rally/sale year with people taking it for granted that there will be a sale and then finding out the details.
I think that we can take it for granted that we will be repeating the sale in 2009. Many thanks to all who gave willingly of their time to create an event of which we can all be proud.

BITS and PIECES
Any donations of junk or unwanted useful equipment will be welcome to fill the table at the next FRS Hamfeast in August. A decision has to be made soon as to taking a table but we seem to be short on stuff to sell so all donations welcome. Don't forget this is not only a good day out but a fantastic club fund booster.
